A Community Treasure

Designed in the spirit of France’s Palais de Versailles, the 2,695-seat Palace Theatre is located at the base of the LeVeque-Lincoln Tower. Adorned with chandeliers, a grand staircase, a mural, a hall of autographed pictures, and a fountain, the Palace is a delightful destination for an evening with the arts. Originally a vaudeville house, special attention was paid to the theatre’s acoustics when it was built. Consequently, there’s not a bad seat in the house!

During the 30s, 40s, and 50s, the Palace was the most active venue in Columbus for live performances. Still popular today, the theatre rarely has a silent night. Among the many events the Palace hosts yearly are performances from CAPA-presented and touring musical artists, comedians, dance companies, Broadway in Columbus, and local arts organizations.

Strategy

The challenge was to fabricate and install a new second-level bar area that reflected, complemented, and enhanced the spirit of the grand theatre lobby. Every component of this unique bar area had to reflect the appropriate drama and style.

The completed project created a refreshment environment that perfectly embodied the Palace Theatre's core value of supporting the patrons of the performing arts. Each crafted piece, from the corbels to the beautiful stonework, had to reflect the appropriate Palace Theatre spirit and provide a sense of welcoming calm to any guest that may enter or leave the bar area.

Result

KCI WORKS collaborated with Construction Systems Inc. and Mont Surfaces for this project. Construction Systems Inc. served as the general contractor, while Mont Surfaces provided the beautiful granite. After much fabrication and installation, the granite and custom millwork package came to life as the new refreshment bar.

The final result delivered a space that creates a sense of belonging within the overall spirit of the Palace Theatre. This new bar area has received high praise from owners, patrons, visitors, and staff for the improved layout, lighting, functionality, and overall aesthetic. It certainly is a great and fitting addition to such a vivid place.
